I had a lot of fun sketching Scraggle with his shape-shifted human limbs on the model sheet, but I ultimately decided to draw him without any of those human limbs for the turnaround as he would primarily be in his normal bat form throughout the story.
Smok's new extra set of limbs presented an interesting challenge when animating the turnaround.
Despite being in her true, malevolent, form, Great Witch still tries to present herself as an amiable and innocent being. All while lying and keeping her fingers crossed behind her back, of course. Though I prefer the gritty look of a pencil-styled pen in Procreate for Great Witch, I was worried that the texture may be too distracting and unclear in animation, so I used a solid studio brush pen for the turnaround.
Although the Great Witch's "good form" may look convincing enough, her temper can get the best of her and betray her true personality. The model sheet was a chance to explore this concept through her expressions. Just like her true form, she holds her fingers crossed behind her back in the turnaround.
